Roger Williams Park

RISD Art Museum

The prestigious Rhode Island School of Design in Providence houses the state's leading museum of fine and decorative arts and is a major attraction. The building leads directly into the museum's new 20th century galleries, a delightful mix of furniture, paintings, textiles and fashion created by many of the most famous artists of the time. Brown University Clock Tower

Ivy League Brown features a meadow dominated by a tall clock tower that tells a tragic love story. Caroline Brown, granddaughter of Nicholas Brown, the founder of the university, was an educated young woman who married late. Her union with Italian diplomat Paul Bainotti was loving and passionate. Together with his sister Annmarie and her husband, the four of them traveled around the continent. After Caroline died unexpectedly in 1893, her bereaved husband erected the Carrie Clock Tower in her memory. This is one of several romantic and historical stories associated with Providence.
